Lord, Have Mercy on Me!

Psalm 51:17 reveals God’s love and mercy toward us. He does not despise our broken heart. When we are devastated and humbled, sorry for how we have hurt others and God, His mercy becomes visible and real. When we see our sin as God sees it, it drives us to repentance.

The act of repentance is simple. It is coming to God to confess our sin with a heart of regret about what we have done and a heart commitment to turn and go God’s way. Repentance means to turn around and go in a different direction, purposed intentionally to change. It translates into, “God, I am sorry and I am willing to take action. I am willing to work, to change, and to let You help me stand against temptation. I set my face against sin. I willingly pay the price to remove myself from all the ‘setups’ that could draw me back into it.” The consequences of repentance are radical. They can include changing patterns, confronting, getting rid of things, and letting go of “friends” and avoiding places where we like to hang out. We become careful about what we focus on. Repentance is radical.

Our heavenly Father provides forgiveness for the sake of relationship because He desires it. His determination is clear in Isa 43:25 and Jer 31:33-34. If we confess our sins, He lovingly promises us two things: forgiveness and cleansing (1Jn 1:9). Are you ready to step into God’s mercy, His forgiveness?

Here is a simple prayer to help you:

Father, now that I have forgiven all others, I thank You that I can now come to receive Your forgiveness. So I come to You, through the shed blood of Jesus and the power of His Cross, asking You to forgive me of all of my sins. I acknowledge and take responsibility for each and every time I have violated Your commandments, as well as for the iniquity that is in my heart.

Holy Spirit, thank You for working forgiveness into my life. Thank You for healing me, and for cleansing me from all my sin. Thank You, Father, for restoring me to fellowship with You. In the Name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!

Psa 51:17 (The Message)

I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered. Heart-shattered lives ready for love don't for a moment escape God's notice.

Isa 43:25 (The Message)

"But I, yes I, am the one who takes care of your sins--that's what I do. I don't keep a list of your sins."

Jer 31:33-34 (The Message)

"This is the brand-new covenant that I will make with Israel when the time comes. I will put my law within them--write it on their hearts!--and be their God. And they will be my people. (34) They will no longer go around setting up schools to teach each other about GOD. They'll know me firsthand, the dull and the bright, the smart and the slow. I'll wipe the slate clean for each of them. I'll forget they ever sinned!" GOD's Decree.

1Jn 1:9 (The Message)

On the other hand, if we admit our sins--make a clean breast of them--he won't let us down; he'll be true to himself. He'll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing.
